Ok, so now that I have decided against Portugal, where in the world am I going to live. The country and region is really easy – Andalucía in Spain. The exact city is still to be decided, but they are really close together so it should be easy to make a choice.
In October 2021 I took my first COVID-era trip to Andalucía. It got off to a bit of a rocky start with my bags not making it onto my connecting flight to Málaga and everything being closed on Sunday. Also, my AirBnB was in a really noisy area. Thing picked up though and I quickly settled in.
The city of Málaga itself is really beautiful. Right on the sea, historic and modern, lots of culture, places to run. It’s really stunning and I ended up having a great time while I was there.
As I visited Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla my love for the region grew. I even made a side trip to Sevilla from Faro when I was there last October.
One of my Vancouver friends was in town during the holidays and mentioned that an acquaintance had moved to Torremolinos and loves it there. It’s about 20 minutes west of Málaga by a regional train that runs a few times every hour during the day. Although it’s a resort city and probably overrun by tourists during the high season it’s a place that has caught my attention.
New travel plans have now been made to further explore what the future holds. This fall I am heading back to Andalucía for one week in Málaga and one week in Torremolinos to see which one of those suits me best. The adventure continues.
