Since I first visited Spain ten years ago I have dreamed of living there.
Now, I’m planning a scouting trip to Sevilla, the heart of Andalucía and one of the most beautiful cities in the world, to prepare for the big move.
Could I live in Sevilla?
This will be my third time visiting Sevilla, known for its stunning historic sites, flamenco, Tapas and warm weather.
Here’s five reasons why I am leaning towards Sevilla as a place to live:
Size: Sevilla is the fourth largest city in Spain but comes with a much more relaxed simple, relaxed lifestyle. It also has the river and some really big parks.
Festivals and Cultural Richness: The city is famous for its lively festivals, such as Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Feria de Abril (April Fair). It is also rich with history and culture. The Alcázar, the Cathedral, and the Plaza de España are must-see landmarks.
Beautiful Neighborhoods: I’ll be exploring different neighborhoods like Triana, Macarena and Nervión to find the perfect place to live.
Local Life: Experiencing local festivals, markets, and everyday life in Sevilla will give me a taste of what it will be like to live there.
Location Location Location: Sevilla is located to many other cities in Andalucia, including Córdoba, Cadiz, Málaga and Granada that are rich in cultural history and some with amazing beaches!
What’s On My Agenda?
I have a few things scheduled for my trip, but have made sure that I haven’t over planned it so that I’ll be running from place to place.
I’m going to explore neighbourhoods like Triana and Nervion to get a feel for the different areas and their unique vibes. Try some of the local restaurants and shops.
I have also booked a couple of cultural experiences, including a night visit to Real Alcázar de Sevilla and a night time visit to the rooftop of the Cathedral.
I will be indulging in a tapas tour on my birthday to sample local cuisine and get to know some of the less touristy restaurants.
To escape the heat, there will be trips to the beach in Cadiz and maybe try one of the local public pools.
I’ll also be brave and use my Spanish to interact with locals, which will help me build my confidence in using it on a daily basis.
Why Make A Scouting Trip
Having first-hand experience in a new city is essential before making the decision to emigrate.
Online research provides valuable information, but experiencing the place first-hand gives a more accurate picture. This kind of reality check helps determine if the lifestyle and pace of life align with your personal preferences.
It also allows you to experience local customs, traditions, and daily routines and to assesse your comfort level with the local language and communication challenges. This will help you avoid culture shock once you arrive in your new city.
You can start to build your support network by meeting locals and expats and get a feel for the social scene and potential for making friends.
It will also give you a flavour of day-to-day living to make an informed decision about relocating.
Conclusion
Planning this scouting trip to Sevilla is a thrilling journey in itself.
I’m excited about the new experiences, the beautiful landscapes, and the chance to immerse myself in Spanish culture. With careful planning and a spirit of adventure, I believe this move will be the start of an incredible new chapter in my life.
