Spain

Crossing The Eiffel Bridge

Two weeks is a long time to spend in Barcelona! That’s why I planned to take day trips and of course some beach days! Today I headed to Girona, about 100 km north east. The high speed trains come here, so it only takes about 40 minutes to get here.

Getting of the train I set my sights on getting coffee. Spain has notriously bad coffee if you want something other than an espresso or cortado. Once I got across the Eiffel Bridge (Pont de les Peixateries Velles) I quickly sought out my morning addiction. I quickly found Espresso Mafi. It was one of the best coffees that I had during my trip. The chocolate croissant was pretty damn good too!

Given how small the town is, it’s pretty easy to do your own walking tour. I started at the Arab baths from the 12th century, then made it over to the Roman Muralles de Girona from the 15th century which can walk on and offers stunning views of the town.

There are a couple of churches worth visiting while you are here if that is something you are interested in. I am conflicted with paying money to any type of Catholic organization while they slow walk on the walk the path to reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous peoples.

There’s lots of cute little shops and galleries here too. The one place I really wanted to go to but didn’t get a chace was the Fundació Rafael Masó / Casa Masó. Masó was a Catalan architect of the early 20th century. I guess that I will just have to come back.
