Yesterday I jumped on the train to go about 40 minutes east to the charming town of Tavira. Just a 10 minute walk from the train station you reach the Ponte Romana which crosses the Gilão River which separates the two sides of the town.
In many of the expat videos I have watched they rave about the town and I can see why. Tavira has a really chill vibe, has lots of restaurants, public squares and gardens. I was really taken by how well maintained the parts of the city that I visted were and you can see great progress being made in redeveloping many of the older properties.
The one thing that strikes me is that for this place to be an option, I’ll really need to be clear on what I am looking to do to have a meaningful life in retirement.
In a surprise twist, my former mixed doubles tennis partner was also in Faro enjoying her last night in Portugal. It was great to see Tricia and her friend Allison and catch up drinking Sangria on the beach and watching the sunset followed by the almost full moon rising. I have to admit, I could get used to it here.
