Follow Your Heart

I really dislike November. From the days getting shorter, the change in the weather to unfortunately for me, experiencing a great deal of loss.

November has been very cruel to me, losing both my grandmothers when I was very young, to my dad and this year mi querido amigo Victor. It has reaffirmed that planning to retire early was the right decision.

If you have been following my journeys here you know that I have been trying to decide where to retire, either in Portugal or Spain. I really love the Iberian Peninsual.

In messaging with one of my oldests and dearest friends last week, I told him that my head says Portugal, my heart says Spain. Being in Spain brings me joy. His response is why are you not following your heart.

Following the chat with Doug and processing Victor’s passing, at a very early age, I have been thinking a lot about what brings me joy. I really do need to focus on that for retirement. It’s the why that I need to keep in mind for everything that I do.

I really do love Lisbon, and I am headed back that way for a week in February. I want to see if it brings me the same joy that I feel when I get to Barcelona, Sevilla or Málaga. It will set me on the right path for the next three years.
