So after getting almost 12 hours of sleep, I had lots of energy to take on the day today! I made trips to two smaller cities south of Lisbon called Barreiro and Seixal. The odd thing is, there are ferries to both of them from Lisbon, but not one that goes between them. All good, I went back to the Time Out Market for another tasty lunch.

I started the day off in Barreiro, a former ship bulding, fishing community. This area, along with others in the south bay are trying to attract new businesses to bring life to their communities and in the process build new and redevelop residential areas. That’s why they are part of this scouting trip.
It takes about 20 minutes to get here from Lisbon on the ferry and has a view of of Lisbon from the riverside walk way. It also has a lot of great street art which gives the city an interesting feel. You can really see the urban decay that has taken place over a long period of time but you can also see the signs of revitalization. The property prices here are really cheap, but I think it’s going to take a while for the city to start living up to it’s potential. Cross one off the list.

So after heading back to Lisbon for some lunch, I jumped on the next ferry over to Seixal. This city has a much different vibe as soon as you get off the boat. You can already see that over recent years there has been investment not only into the infrastructure of the city but also lots great recreational space too.
There’s a really nice riverside walk that is lined with restaurants across the street. You can see the redevelopment of older buildings as well as the new construction. There wasn’t a lot of people on the street, but hey it’s a Monday afternoon in October. I am going to mark this one down as a possibility.
So now with 23,000 steps in (18.5 KM), I am going to put my feet up, have some dinner and call it a night. Probably not another 12 hours, but I wouldn’t complain either.
